Western OK Human Resources (WOKHR) was conceived in 2003 when WTC and the Business Development team recognized a need to support area businesses through education and training involving human resource management. A survey was developed and mailed to more than 200 companies in search of confirming the market need. The results were indicative that an opportunity to assist area companies in the human resources arena existed. Area stakeholders were asked to attend an informational meeting in which five attended. From that meeting, WOKHR was launched. Today, the organization has a current membership of 51 companies/individuals impacting more than 5000 employees. In 2010, WOKHR received the prestigious Society of Human Resources affiliation.
WOKHR meets the second Thursday of each month, with the exception of August and December, from 10 a.m. to noon at various locations. Education focuses on professionalism, Federal and State laws, and leadership. Currently, WOKHR consists of members of the national Society of Human Resources and the OKSHRM organizations. Training is offered to attain the nationally recognized Professional Human Resource (PHR) and Senior Professional Human Resource (SPHR) certification. In 2009, four members accomplished the goal, three PHR’s and one SPHR.
